Are Roborovski Hamsters Domesticated?
I have had robos for a while now, growing up I had pet fancy mice, pet fancy rats, pet sugar gliders. I've had several unique pets in my early life, and I will say robos are up there on the cuteness scale!
But my question is, are they domesticated? Or just tamed? I know that the Syrian Hamster is domesticated. But the Robo hasn't had nearly as much attention as the other dwarf hamsters or even the large teddy bear syrian. It really makes you wonder. Supposedly you need 80+ generations in captivity to be domesticated. However, if youre not breeding for a tame lovable pet in particular, as these rodent mills often mass produce untame animals, is that animal species truly domestic? I don't know, but i do know that my robos have been particularly easy to tame, they get a bad rap but really, they are just a little anxious, not untameable.
